How To Caulk

Before You Start:
- Cut out any old caulking with a knife or scraper. Make sure all residue is removed.
- Clean the surface thoroughly with water & disinfectant.
- Tape off any areas around the joint (where you do not want caulk) with painter’s tape.
- If the gap you are caulking is wider than ½ inch, use a foam backer rod in the space.

- Painter's Tape

- Caulking Gun (Optional)
- Foam backer rod (if necessary)
- Level
- Putty knife
- Rags
Step 1: Cut Nozzle
If using a squeezable caulk, follow the instructions on the tube for cutting off the tip of the nozzle. The wider down you cut the nozzle, the wider the caulk line will be.
Step 2: Apply Caulk
If you are using a rigid tube, you will need to use a caulking gun for application. If you are using a squeezable tube, apply steady pressure and squeeze tube, then carefully & steadily drag the nozzle around the joint, to apply an even line.
Step 3: Smooth The Line
Using a putty knife, drag along the joint to smooth the line of caulking. Remove the painter’s tape and remove any excess prior to letting it dry.
